Rhinestone Cowgirl delivers maximum bling on pretty much anything
Jen Telgen, of Dallas, Ga. has become a creative force when it comes to crystals. It all started a few years ago when she decided not to shell out the requisite hundreds of dollars for a blinged-out show shirt, opting instead to attach her own crystals to a pre-made shirt.
Telgen had recently started showing horses at the time, following a recovery from a brain injury she sustained in a 2011 car accident. The riding was therapeutic, as was the creativity she discovered in working with crystals. These were two talents she didn’t realize she had.
“Before (the accident), I didn’t have a creative bone in my body,” she said.
She calls her newfound craft a gift from God.
“He showed me sunshine in this tragic place,” she explained.
Today, her creations range from show shirts to belts to horsehair jewelry and even a crystal encrusted cow skull. This commission was actually a memento for a client who had recently lost her pet cow; the sparkling skull now resides in the client’s home behind glass.
Telgen’s more pedestrian custom orders include belts with custom conchos or crystals, fully customized shirts with colored crystals and appliques and commemorative bracelets made from horse tail hair. They are, appropriately, marketed under her Rhinestone Cowgirl moniker.
